APRIL MEETING 2018

Our April UPC Monthly Meeting and Educational Program is on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the DAC East/West Conference room in the District Offices.  The meeting begins at 9am with our business portion and then please  join  us  as  we  hear from notMykid.

Join the United Parent Council (UPC) and notMYkid for a candid conversation.  Safe dating can be described as the practice of healthy, interdependent relationships between individuals. Many relationships, however, are unhealthy and can lead to real emotional and physical consequences for those individuals in the relationship and others around them.

How do we differentiate between what is “safe” and “unhealthy” when it comes to dating? Unhealthy relationships are defined as relationships in which physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional violence take place. Many unhealthy relationships can be avoided by helping youth to develop skills to create healthy relationships and by teaching them to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships. If we witness signs of an unhealthy relationship – what can we do?

Dr. Lee, with over 30 years of experience in education, believes a student’s lifelong success demands mastery of the four C’s:  communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.  He has a strong focus and commitment to the mission of cultivating, leading and inspiring world-class, innovative thinkers and expert communicators through a focus on the relationship between educator and student built around challenging, meaningful and engaging curriculum.  As a former teacher, principal, director, and a parent of two PVSchools graduates, Dr. Lee understands and embraces the importance of parents, students, and educators working together to optimize the K-12 educational experience.

Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others.
-- Danny Thomas

Those words apply to many individuals, and one of them was Geri Morgan. Until her untimely death in July 2005, Geri had been involved in UPC since the late 1990s. As a former teacher, she volunteered at several PVUSD schools and served as PTO president. She was also a sought-after substitute teacher.  In her memory, UPC established the Geri L. Morgan Volunteer Award to honor a volunteer for his or her outstanding service contributions to a school community. The winner will be honored at the May 17th Governing Board meeting and will designate a school group or organization of their choice to receive a $100.00 donation from UPC.
