UPC Committees

DERT (District Emergency Response Team) (Parent Rep: Corrine Bernstein-Forman)

Geri Morgan Volunteer Award (Chairperson: Stacey Huscher)

  • Oversees award created in 2005 to honor the memory of long-time UPC member Geri Morgan.

Gifted Education (Chairperson: Marisha Geraghty)

  • Acts as a resource for parents regarding PVUSD services, activities, and opportunities for gifted and high ability students; works with PVUSD Gifted Education Coordinator to identify interests and needs of gifted children and to develop gifted services to ensure that all students have the opportunity to fulfull their potential.

Hospitality (Chairperson: Stephanie Ritscher)

  • Assists with meeting set up and welcome, room arrangements, and other duties as needed

Legislative (Chairperson: Julie Bacon)

  • Serves as a resource regarding legislative issues so that UPC members can be more effective advocates for our children and for public education. Our mission is to educate our members about advocacy opportunities within our own local schools and beyond our district boundaries. Legislative Committee members learn about district, county, and state ballot measures, candidates, and bills that impact education. We participate in PVUSD's legislative training for parents and we network with parents in other school districts and with our representatives in the Arizona State Legislature. In keeping with our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, we share this information with UPC members in a balanced and neutral manner.

LINC (Leadership•Ideas•Networking•Community)

  • Acts as a resource for parent group leaders and works toward linking schools with community partners, other school parent group leaders and district administration.

Membership (Chairperson: Shannon Hanna)

  • Collects and solicits memberships; maintains membership list

Parent Group Support (Chairperson: )

  • Serves as an advisor for School Parent group leaders

Public Relations/Ebulletins (Chairperson: Dwayne Paul)

  • Handles communications regarding UPC’s programs and activities

School Council (Chairperson: Corinne Bernstein-Forman)

  • Follows School Council issues; assists with School Council trainings

Social Media (Chairperson:  Dwayne Paul)

Special Education (Chairperson: Deb Kozak)

  • Acts as a resource for parents regarding PVUSD services, activities, and opportunities for special education students; provides access to information about special education on a local, state, and national level

Teacher/Staff Appreciation (Chairperson: Stacey Huscher)

  • Supervises appreciation activities for selected teachers and staff at the elementary, middle, and high school levels based on nominations from the parent community

Webmaster (Chairperson: Dwayne Paul)

  • Maintains UPC website



Stay Informed



    Parents and students are invited to nominate a PVUSD teacher or staff member who has gone above and beyond for students. Nominations must be received by March 7, 2017.

    Don't miss the February Monthly Meeting and Educational Program on February 15, 2017. Our program will address Middle School preparation and the transition to high school. It will be presented by Koni Withers, PVUSD Lead Counselor.
