Geri
L. Morgan Volunteer Award Success in life has nothing to do with
what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you
do for others. United
Parent
Council's Geri L. Morgan Volunteer Award honors the example of service
demonstrated in the life of former UPC member Geri Morgan.
In her memory, UPC annually recognizes a
volunteer who has made outstanding contributions to a school community. UPC awards the winning nominee a $100 check
made out to a school group of his or her choice. Jennifer
Dziuk ran this year's award committee. This
year's recipient is Laurie Smith,
a parent from Horizon High School. Laurie has always been active
at her children's schools as well as in District committees and
programs. She spearheaded the formation of the Horizon PTO and
has served as its president or co-president since its founding. She has
been active in bringing different programs to Horizon, especially in
the area of prevention. Laurie also previously served as PTO
president at Sandpiper Elementary School. A long-time member of
United Parent Council, Laurie has chaired UPC's Legislative Committee
as well as chaired the District-wide Community Legislative Network,
which tracks legislation and lobbies on behalf of the PVUSD. She has
served the District as a hearing officer for several years as
well. Laurie
has designated the "So Fresh and So Clean" prevention program at
Horizon as the recipient of the $100 award check. The
following individuals also were nominated for the 2007-08 Geri Morgan
Award:
